Trent McMillen is a Registered Liquidator and Fellow of CPA Australia. He loves the challenge of rescuing businesses in debt distress and is a big advocate for legislative change that makes it simpler to turnaround struggling businesses.
With a 20+ year career exclusively in corporate insolvency, Trent has worked on wide and varied appointments. He has administered all sizes of matters too, from businesses with 3 staff to large companies with a payroll of 1,500. His first assignment, way back as a fresh-faced university graduate, was the administration of the special purpose coach/bus transport company responsible for servicing the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. After years of toil in that matter, creditors received 100 cents in the dollar from a mix of asset realisations and strategic actions, and from that time on Trent was hooked on the insolvency industry.
Working initially for a top 10 accounting firm and then for one of the Big Four, he recognised that neither was the best structure to service the small to medium sized business market. In 2018 he established MaC Insolvency – with its lean, mobile structure better placing the team’s expertise to act quickly and cost effectively to turn small and medium sized businesses around.
Having parents who have done the hard yards with a small construction business, Trent is particularly proud that MaC Insolvency is positioned to help small family businesses where our competitors cannot.
Trent is a straight shooter, telling it like it is. He will gladly explain complex areas of law in plain speak, and quickly break down tough situations into a series of options. Commerciality in decision making is the best quality of an insolvency practitioner, and he impresses this on the team when dealing with such matters.
Trent looks forward to continuing on in the profession for another 20+ years and helping countless more businesses … provided, of course, in between assignments he can still manage to get out on the golf course.
